Golden City Park bounces back to life
After eight weeks of work, the renovated pitch at the Golden City Park in Berekum has been handed over to the Premier League Board (PLB) in good shape for premier league matches.
According to Green Grass Technology (GGT), the company that undertook the renovation works of the PLB, the project was completed on schedule and the pitch has gone through all the necessary phases and now ready to be used throughout the season.
The cost of the renovation was borne by the PLB who will deduct the amount from Arsenal’s share of the sponsorship money. The pitch, the home ground for Berekum arsenals, hosted its first league match when arsenal beat heart of Lions 0 - 1 when the 2008/2009 season kicked off.
While the renovation works have transformed the bumpy pitch to a lofty grass pitch, officials of GGT say the real test will be how well the pitch is maintained to last.
As part of the deal, GGT will maintain the pitch for the first month for free, and are currently engaged in discussions with Arsenal to have a deal to extend the maintenance deal to at least a year.
